Kiama Woodcraft Expo and Sales

Kiama2010~1.JPGThe Kiama Woodcraft Expo was held on the weekend of March 13, 14th 2010.  There were several demonstrations including Scroll Saw, Bandsawn Boxes, Woodturning, Wood Carving as well as my own Sharpening.

Other interesting features included the Wood Exhibition and Sales,  Leigh Ferguson’s Sales, Malcolm’s wood which is always reasonably priced,  Clive Pickering’s Grandfather Clocks and Barry demonstrating French polishing.

The Traditional Tool Group was represented by John, Mick and Horatio, talking about the Tool Group, the upcoming Tool Sale in May and also selling old tools.

Timber & Working With Wood Show - Canberra 4-6th September 2009
Although a smaller Wood Show than Sydney, I feel that it is in some ways better for the visitor because of easy access, free parking, not as crowded so it is easier to get around and see everything and see the demonstrations easily.  There also seems to be a greater "wood-related" content than Sydney.  From an exhibitors point of view it is easier to setup than other shows.

Diamond Plates, Waterstones and Planes are always popular but the winner this year was the Veriitas Mk II Honing Guide - even though they look complicated they are very easy to use.  Repeatable settings means that no unnecessary metal is removed so honing is quick and the Woodworker is back on the workbench - where he/she should be (not sharpening all day).

Sydney Tool Sale 16th August 2009
Organised by Henry Black and The Traditional Tools Group Inc.. Henry has been organising these sales for over 20 years with great success.  This year at the Strathfield Men's Shed in Homebush - good space and good central location for visitors.
About 40 Trading Tables loaded with old tools ranging from top-shelf collectibles right down to rusty "junk" - or was it Patina?

Another angle of Jim with his Bits 'n Pieces.  G15 Rust Preventative is always popular, not available in any Hardware Stores and not being able to Post being an aerosol can - personal shopping only.  Jim has used many Rust Prevention products (not mere Water Displacement) and found this to be the best of all.
